This is not exactly the way presented in Angelina Jolie's movie "Wanted (2008)", but it's pretty much in the concept!
Engineers from weapons and defense research outfit Sandia National Laboratories are working on a bullet that can steer itself after it is fired, homing in on laser-designated targets with the help of embedded electronics. The other geniuses working on invisibility need to go on overdrive.
The 4 inch-long bullet was invented by Red Jones and Brian Kast, who aside from being engineers Read more [...]
Sighted: People Flying Over New York City!
No, this is not a magic trick (nor is it Real Magic 😛 ):
Sometimes I wonder why people use the phrase “when pigs fly” when they try to convey that something is impossible. Shouldn’t they say something like “when humans fly,” since scientists could one day genetically modify pigs to give them wings? You know, since it’s less likely for these scientists to do their experiments on human beings. Or have they already succeeded in doing so?
Pictures don’t lie, but you aren’t really Read more [...]
Cellphone App Removes Wandering Strangers from Your Photos!
Has it ever happened to you that you have taken the perfect shot, just to realize that strangers have filled up the background?
No, it doesn’t shoo away people nor will it magically fill in the background once you crop out a person or two. What it does is initially take a burst of shots in rapid succession. It then compares all the shots and identifies which subjects are moving (aka. the people to remove) and which ones are not (aka. the subject of the photos.)
Here's a video:

Injection That Heals Bones in Record Time, No More Signatures on the Cast!
"Remember back in grade school when one kid would show up with a cast on his arm and all of the other kids would stumble over themselves to sign it? Your kids might not have the same experience thanks to a research project at the University of Georgia Regenerative Bioscience Center. Researchers there – in cooperation with the Department of Defense – have developed a “fracture putty” that could reduce the healing time for fractured bones from months to mere weeks, with patients being able Read more [...]
Trucker Cap Measures How Awake Drivers Are!
Companies are currently striving for a permanent solution for traffic accidents... Here's what the latest invention provides:
"Keeping workers awake while they perform dangerous jobs like driving trucks or heavy machinery is a pretty major issue. Currently, many companies rely on the honor system or GPS tracking to ensure that workers in these jobs are taking appropriate rest breaks. But while tracking the location or travel times of trucks can tell bosses how often a worker is resting, these Read more [...]
Superhuman Strengths Are Now Available… For Sale!
"Every journey begins with a single step – and for a disabled father, every step to the top of Mont Saint Michel in Normandy was a miracle. Seiji Uchida has been paralyzed from the waist down for more than 28 years, but with the help of a friend and a very cool futuristic exoskeleton, he was recently able to realize his dream of climbing the mountain.
The suit is called the HAL, or Hybrid Assisted Limb, robotic suit. The picture at top is an industrial model, but the one directly above is a Read more [...]
Steampunk Telephone: 1890 Called, They Want Their Phone Back!
"If you have an aversion to modern technology and it’s lack of style and sophistication, then check out this Victorian era replica phone. It should go perfectly with your other Steampunk decor.
It’s a replica of an 1892 L.M. Ericsson model, but the rotary dial has been changed to push-buttons, with the center being a dedicated redial button. And even though it isn’t necessary, the magneto generator crank really turns. The cord even resembles that fabric-covered material they used to use for Read more [...]
Decypher Watch, Easier Than You’d Think!
Design submitted by Lloyd from Australia.
Lloyd says: This watch design is called “Decypher”. The display may look mysterious at first, but is actually very easy to decipher once you know the trick behind it.
The watch face displays four figures, each with a lot of random-looking lines and triangles stuck on them all over the place. I tried staring at the image and trying to read off what time it was, before giving up and just peeking at the bottom of the image to read it off: 15:23.

3D Mirror: Release Your Inner Beast! Snow White Is Sci-fi After All!
"People have always had a fascination with the extraordinary: unicorns, fairy tales, dwarves, princesses, and magic mirrors. And somehow, the latter is slowly becoming a reality, although they’re not really magical in that sense.
We’ve already seen what augmented reality mirrors can do to our faces, and while they can be used to correct or modify certain features, they can’t change our faces completely.
However, artist Karolina Sobecka wants to change that, and change it she has. Sobecka Read more [...]
Mouserugs: Tiny Carpets for Your Mouse!
I’ve never bought a mouse pad. Not only are most of them kitschy, I barely even need one because even my cheap optical mice works on different surfaces. That said, I would still like to get a Mouserug for my trusty Logitech. It’s the least I can do for its years of service.
Mouserugs look a lot like the actual thing because they’re basically miniature scale models of fancy oriental rugs. FiberLok, the company who makes them, photographs and scans actual rugs as the basis for their product. Read more [...]
MIT CityCar, the Folding Car!
"They’ve been talking about it for years, but now MIT has finally done it: they have unveiled their tiny, folding city car. Previously referred to simply as “CityCar,” the automobile was introduced as “Hiriko” to the European Union Commission chief in Brussels in mid-January, 2012. The name means “from the city” in Basque, and it’s clear that this tiny electric automobile is definitely meant for city streets.
Here's a video:
Hiriko has a 60-mile range and does away with the Read more [...]
Listen To Mother Nature… Literally, Music Out Of Tree Rings!
"Most of us learned when we were children that a tree’s interior rings can tell a lot about it. But thanks to Bartholomäus Traubeck, we can now not simply look at tree rings – we can also hear them. Traubeck’s Years project is a modified turntable that plays slices of trees just like records.
There’s a lot of complicated stuff in the project, but the rundown is that it uses a loop-based software music sequencer called Ableton Live to turn those lovely tree rings into even lovelier Read more [...]
